So fundamental, so necessary for the success of any organization. There was no way we could loose site of something so basic and important, I thought.<br /><br />Well, look at us now. On the brink of losing it all. Divided we fall. Congress and the American public divided just about 50/50. These are struggling times, times of growth, change, complacency maybe?<br /><br />Too much trust in our government may have led us here. Believing "they" will do what's right. Lack of education in all levels of our education system. It is not taught that we are the guardians of all that is good in America. We should not abdicate our responsibilities to anyone. It's far too important.<br /><br />So what do we do? Well, for starters, we look at how our politicians vote. Do they vote with America's interest in mind, or to keep in good favor with the party leaders and the lobbyists who contribute to their campaigns?<br /><br />It's nice when a politician brings home the earmarks to your state to buy your vote, but we can't let this over ride the national interest any longer. We are so divided we can't even supply our own energy any more.<br /><br />Holding their feet to the fire is a solution. If they don't do what's in the best interest of the country, we must vote them out. Sometimes it's a difficult decision booting out someone with seniority. Think about it. We have oil reserves, coal reserves, gas reserves and nuclear technology. Half of Congress won't allow any of this to be touched. China, India and Cuba are drilling for oil off our coastline, slant drilling at that. Where are the environmentalists now? Then there is the dollar being devalued, making it possible to sell more goods overseas. Sure, it helps with the deficit, but at what cost?<br /><br />Oh and let's not forget ethanol. We are burning our food supply. Farmers are growing corn for fuel, not for human consumption. The whole world is effected by this blunder. We all know it, but the charade continues.<br /><br />This is truly a crises by anyone's definition. This Congress is letting us down. There is no leadership from the White House, or anywhere else. The prospects of Obama and McCain are frightening.<br /><br />When I was growing up there was Communism to contend with. We kept a watchful eye out for signs of it. Today it's the environmentalist we have to watch out for. And guess what -- Congress is loaded with them. The best money can buy.<br /><br />Then there are the socialists in Congress. Another can of worms. Transfer of wealth is their mantra. Maxine Waters threatened to nationalize the oil industry. These are not the people who we should be trusting. They've proven their intentions, their disdain for the American way of life. We should be more like the Europeans they say.<br /><br />Do I have to mention global warming? What a sham. You do know you can buy carbon offsets from Al Gore's company, right? I'll give you a better deal, call me. There has been no increase in the Earth's temperature in the last 10 years. The Earth is dynamic not static. Oh, and Barbra Boxer doesn't want to leave a sweltering world to our grand children!<br /><br />We are leaders not followers. Congress has lost site of that fact. Which brings me to the new world order crowd. It all fits in, recking our economy, being subservient to the United Nations, weakening our currency, and guess what? No, they would lower taxes, rid the country of regressive laws and just get out of the way.<br /><br />And wouldn't it be nice to know that when we went to sleep at night the good folks in Washington, DC worked so hard that they had an energy plan? We could heat and cool our homes, drive to and from work and maybe a ride out into the country side. All without worrying about the cost.<br /><br />Knowing that we had a choice as to whether we continue in the social security program, or opt into a self directed security account. Choice is good right? That's what it means to live in America,right? None being discriminated against. Good for you.<br /><br />Congress is hoping you'll go out and spend it. Buy anything. Just like it does. Just like your own personal earmark.<br /><br />Excessive buying on credit (ours and Congress') helped get us to this point. Now, even if you're maxed-out on your cards, you can just charge it against your taxes.<br /><br />I couldn't find this in the IRS FAQs, but <a href="http://digits.hrblock.com/newsletter/yourtaxes/2008return.php">according to H&amp;R Block</a>, this money is actually an advance on next year's tax refund. So, if you got $600, when you file your taxes in 2009, $600 will be deducted from your refund. But, if your refund next year is less than your rebate this year, you don't have to pay back the excess.<br /><br />The bottom line? Bush hit back.<br /><br />Iraq will be the shining star in the region. The light from this star will empower peoples of the oppressed countries to rise up and join the free world. No doubt it will take time for this to manifest, but it has begun, thanks to President Bush.<br /><br />I can hear the nay sayers. Not all of his policies were popular. Spending was way out of control. Hurricane Katrina didn't help matters. The press and those who don't like the President blame him. It will be shown that the corrupt government of New Orleans spent the money allocated to strengthening the levy system on other projects. Who will stand with me and force the special interests out of Washington?<br /><br />We all know Congress and the special interest groups are in bed with each other. So looking towards government to solve our problems is a non sequitur. Where does that leave us?<br /><br />The only power we have is the ballot box. We almost got it to work with the Contract with America, but the juniors were quickly corralled into the fold and coerced into following the big footprints of the status quo.<br /><br />While we have very brave men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, we at home must do our part and make sure they have something worth coming home to. It is our responsibility!<br /><br />The time has come to allow drilling in Anwr, off our coasts and in the Gulf of Mexico. After all, Cuba and China have formed a partnership to do just that. Who do you think has the better technology to drill cleanly and safely?<br /><br />Then there is coal made into fuel; Germany developed this technology during WWII. The Air Force is doing this as we speak. We certainly don't want to be dependent on anyone other than ourselves when it comes to our defense. The time has come to build nuclear plants and certainly refineries.<br /><br />All this "green" nonsense has got to stop. All it does is make money for Al Gore and those who jump on the bandwagon. There is zero evidence of man-made globe warming and the temperature has not increased in the last 10 years. So stop the silliness.<br /><br />I know there is so much money on the table that the oil companies don't want to leave. This is very short sighted. Speaking of which, look at the unintended consequences of what happened when ethanol was mandated to buy a few votes and to appease the environmentalists. The whole world is affected. The price of food is more than some people can afford in some of the poorer countries. The price of fuel being bid up by speculators is going to kill the goose that lays the golden egg.<br /><br />So what I am saying is it is up to us to push Washington into action with pressure, much pressure.<br /><br />This is where we can start. Make contact with your representatives and let them know we are paying attention, and that we vote. We will be voting on the way they vote and perform. Start by calling the offices of your representatives and talk about drilling for oil. Call again the next day to talk about converting coal to fuel oil. Keep calling to talk about more refineries and nuclear power plants.<br /><br />Lastly we don't need all these designer gasolines for different parts of the country and different seasons. This increases the cost and increases the inefficiency in the system.<br /><br />All this, by the way, will produce many good paying jobs right here at home.<br /><br />None of the Presidential candidates has a clue about the economy so there is no hope there. Vote the status quo out and let fresh ideas in.<br /><br />Join me. I know there has to be debate, and that can be constructive. However it is no longer about debate. It's about power, selfishness, and even hatefulness. We have moved so far from working for the common good that we no longer expect anything but divisiveness and therefore we except the rhetoric from both parties as the way it is, and we cannot do anything about it.<br /><br />We must interject ourselves into the debate as well as the processes. We can no longer trust in the representative government. Congress no longer listens to us. They live in a world of their own, alongside special interest money that is pouring into the system with a devastating effect.<br /><br />What's in the public interest? Energy policies! Why don't we drill off our own coast? In Alaska? In the Gulf? China is in the process of drilling in the Gulf with Cuba! Who has the best record for clean technology, China/Cuba or the United Sates of America?<br /><br />How about refineries for gasoline? How about nuclear energy? Can the environmentalists have that much money and power to block it? Something doesn't add up.<br /><br />"We the People" must take control back from the "me first" crowed. Get involved, demand our country back. It is after all our responsibility to safeguard the governmental structure set up more than two hundred years ago.<br /><br />We are off course for sure. Many people are pulling us toward socialism, not learning the lessons of Canada, France, Sweden, Great Britain and others. Our system is a good one. Let's preserve it. Send the politicians home, cut their pay and for Pete's sake elect common people to Congress. There are plenty of people with the smarts and patriotism who could and would step up for a one or two term commitment.<br /><br />There are way too many special interest groups claiming to have our best interests in mind when they lobby the folks who work on the hill. You know that's not true. It's all about massaging the laws to work in their favor. It has nothing to do with our best interest. We tell our representatives what we want and need. We don't need a go between. Mexico is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and we are going to spend 1.4 billion dollars in aid and training and equipment? The last time we did this with Mexico, the men we trained went over to the winning side, the drug cartel side. The equipment went with them as did the weapons. I don't know where the money went.<br /><br />Not much has been revealed about the agreement. Some are saying some of the funds will be used to combat terrorisms. Who's against that? Right? Seems to me we could and should clean up our own act by closing the border. This in turn would greatly reduce much of the drugs on our streets. We should also crack down, no pun intended, on drug use. This is something we can do. We know who the traffickers are, who the users are.<br /><br />I'm not saying it's easy to do. I just don't see why we haven't wanted to. I know there has been a lot of money spent on "the war on drugs", but with too many restrictions and who knows how far money has made it up the chain of command. There's a tremendous amount of money to be made, and a lot of it is floating around. Someone has got to start the ball rolling. Also to the families who lost loved ones and those separated from their very own heroes.<br /><br />Now, politics as usual. While Nancy Pelosi made some admirable remarks, she just couldn't leave out politics on this special day. She had to be derogatory in <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=109&amp;STORY=/www/story/11-09-2007/0004702432&amp;EDATE=">her comments</a> regarding the Republican's block of the Senate's veterans bill. Both parties knew it was heading for a veto.<br /><br />The<a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&amp;sid=aS9g.bFgvV7M&amp;refer=us"> ten billion dollar domestic </a>spending add-on to the veterans bill made the bill outside the parameters of the President's budget. Add-ons are a practice used by both parties, I know.
